Of course, we think our barges, boats, pontoons and alternative crafts are some of the finest on the British Waterways – but don’t just take our word for it!
Here are a few testimonials from satisfied Lambon Boats customers:
We had heard good reports of Lambon Boats so when the decision was made to have a wide beam boat built suitable for the wider canals and rivers of the UK we arranged a meeting with Ian Hillsdon at Lambon Fabrications base near Droitwich. Ian is Lambon’s ‘front-of-house’ as it were and also prepares the CAD (computer aided design) to the customer’s specification.
We had a rough idea of what we wanted; it would basically be a wide Narrowboat boat approximately 60’ x 11.5’ and was intended to be our forever home after we had finished continuously cruising and were ready to settle down in more or less one place. We had more definite ideas about the mechanics and fit-out of the boat.
Ian discussed all our requirements with Steve Lambon and between them suggested that they would like to build something ‘different’ from the ubiquitous wide Narrowboat and create something like a river boat with a bow that would look very different from that of a Narrowboat. We agreed to let Steve and Ian have a free hand with the design and Ian soon presented us with a computerised drawing with which we were delighted.
A price was agreed, the materials ordered and delivered and the work began.
Lots of discussion took place during the build between us, Steve and Ian who were happy to debate the merits and/or doubts of some of the ideas suggested, all parties coming to a satisfactory, agreeable outcome.
From day one when the first steel arrived Steve Lambon, on his own, fashioned, fabricated and built our boat in just 80 days including placing the engine in position and building a Schilling Rudder. Steve is a master of his craft; it was an amazing experience to watch him handle the huge sheets of steel, cutting and coaxing it into the beautiful shape of our hull.
The whole experience was positive, the design was innovative, and the craftsmanship excellent. Steve and Ian were most professional in their dealings with us. We would highly recommend Lambon Boat Fabricators.

We are a charity group operating a fund-raising, 50-seat trip boat on the Basingstoke Canal for over 30 years. In 2009 we decided it was time to replace our trusty but aging boat and we approached several boatyards to ascertain their willingness to build a boat which would conform to the strict regulations required by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for commercial operations. None of the inland waterway boatyards we approached had experience of building to MCA requirements and most were reluctant to get involved but from the outset, Lambon Boats attitude was “show us the regulations and we can build it”.
A price and timescale were agreed and a contract placed in 2012. As experienced boat operators we were able to draw up a detailed specification and we worked closely with Lambon in order to meet both our and the MCA’s requirements. Lambon’s attitude throughout was friendly and cooperative and they dealt competently with any of the issues that inevitably arise on a project of this scale. We took delivery of the boat in early 2013 and have been operating very successfully since.
We were particularly impressed with Lambon’s response when we had an alternator failure. Following a phone call at 8.00am Steve Lambon drove from their base at Droitwich, picked up a spare and delivered and fitted it to the boat the same day, which prevented any disruption to our operating schedule.
Throughout the whole period of the build we enjoyed a very cordial relationship with Lambon Boats and were particularly impressed by their “can do” attitude. We are happy to recommend them to any would be boat owner.
